D-004 What does List: Start Delay Modes accept, when its row >0 stands for every positive number of seconds rather than one code?
What the schemas do
A vocabulary of the three codes the list names, 0, -1, and -2, open to a media offset, a whole number of seconds of at least 0, for the >0 row.
Options
Why
The >0 row says a positive value is a mid-roll's start delay, in seconds, so every positive integer is valid and none is a code of its own. The three other rows are codes with labels. A vocabulary of those codes, open to a media offset in seconds, states both: the labels stay with their codes, and a delay of 30 validates. A media offset starts at 0, which is also the pre-roll code, and the two agree: a delay of 0 seconds is a pre-roll. Any integer of at least -2 would accept the same values but lose the codes' labels, and the codes alone would reject every mid-roll at a given second.
What we ask the specification to state
Write the mid-roll row as a range with its unit, such as "1 or more: Mid-Roll, the start delay in seconds", and say whether 0 seconds is the pre-roll code. Today >0 is the only row besides the 500+ vendor ranges that stands for many values, and unlike them it names no first code, so a reader of the table alone can take it for a code.
